Neil Thwaites - The Corn Dolly Man

1931 - 1999

Neil Remembered

Neil lived in the village of Londesborough, near Market Weighton, until his death in February 1999, and a seat dedicated to his memory was placed in the village in a prominent position alongside the church in August 2000.

The plaque on the seat is inscribed with one of Neil's famous Corn Dolly mice.

A memorial weather vane made by John Moore, the blacksmith in Market Weighton, is to be placed on the proposed new town hall.

At last, in October 2003, the memorial weathervane has been placed on Market Weighton Town Council's offices in Line Gate.  A nice visible tribute to Neil for all to see.

A commemorative corn wreath and floral tribute in honour of Neil Thwaites, was attached to the winning post on the occasion of the 1999 race.

Neil was a big supporter of the race, and helped to erect the winning post some years ago.
