The 'Local' Race - The Kiplingcotes
Derby
The 486th Race, 17th March 2005
The Results
This year's gruelling race was contested by 10 riders and horses over the traditional course of 4 miles, and in front of a good crowd of spectators the race was won by first time entrant 18 year old Harriet Bethel on her mount Wandering Wolf (Wolfie). It was a fitting win for Harriet who is a descendant of one of the founder members of the race.
Last year's winner Robert Howarth came in second place on Plumb Bob, and third was Ken Holmes who hoped to increase his tally of wins to eleven.
Amongst the also-rans were two young riders successfully completing their first race, Heather Buck (11) on Strawberry Jake who finished in ninth place, and Isabelle Barrett (14) on Alfie who finished eighth.
The other entrants were Pauline Edwards-Harrison on Lady Willows, Tony Sumpton on Achilles Thunder, Robert Harrison on Oberon, David Pritchard on Markham Lad and Sally Simpson on Christie.
And so to the next race - 16th March 2006
