The 'Local' Race - The Kiplingcotes Derby
The 489th Race, 20th March 2008
The Results

This year's race was held in atrocious conditions, with driving rain and wind, being a distinct contrast to recent years.  A crowd of around 200 spectators braved the conditions to see 12 gallant riders and horses tackle the four and a half mile course.

The race was won in grand style by John Thirsk of Holme-on Spalding Moor on Masie, an improvement on his fifth place last year.   Liz Stubbins came in second on her mount Cid, maintaining good form being last year's winner.  Katie Croft was third on her mount Etton Lad, again one of the recent successful riders having won the race with Etton Lad in 2006.
