The Results
The 290th Kiplingcotes Derby this year was blessed with much better weather than last year's rain soaked event. A dry, overcast breezy morning, and firm conditions saw 19 runners and riders tackle the famous four and a half mile course.  The event attracted a very large number of spectators who were well entertained by a race which almost ended in a photo finish.

John Thirsk of Holme-on Spalding Moor repeated his success of last year by again winning the race on Masie, just beating Liz Stubbins in photo finish style on her mount Charlie.  In keeping with John's success Liz also repeated her second placing of last year, but with a different mount.   In third place was John Rich, ridden by Sally Ireland.


Two failed to finish: Rosie unseated her rider Leslie Evans around Enthorpe Bridge, while Steelers Dream, ridden by Melissa Bean, fell approaching the final road crossing, about three furlongs out.
