Election to be held to fill vacancy on council

Who will be first past the post on 21st March, Kiplingcotes Derby Day ?

Following the sudden resignation of Councillor Doreen Plews, the Electoral Services Officer reports that more than 10 local electors have requested that an election take place to select her replacement.

Potential candidates have until 22nd February 2002 to register their intention to stand for election, and the polling day is set for 21st March 2002.

At their 13th February meeting local councillors unanimously agreed to issue polling cards to all residents of the town at a cost of around £1100, a sum in addition to the expenditure of £1000 for the election itself.  Polling cards were not issued at the last election resulting in a very poor turnout due to many residents not being aware that an election was taking place.
