Town Crier

Too Many empty Business Premises in the town.

Who is to blame?

As one walks through the town it is very evident that there are many empty shop / business premises either standing vacant and unkempt, or available for rent.

It is not unusual for local enterprising folk to set up small businesses which seem to flourish for a few months only to close down; the often heard comment is that the rent has been increased or the business rate has been raised to such a level that the business becomes unviable.

Why ?

Are greedy landlords charging too much rent, are local authorities increasing business rates to prohibitive levels, or are our enterprising entrepreneurs just too ambitious ?

Maybe this is a question that the Market Weighton Area Regeneration Partnership should consider !
