Success in 2002 for Market Weighton in Bloom

After gaining 3rd place in the Spring event, the town were placed outright winners in the Summer judging section of the The Yorkshire in Bloom Competition.  A great success for the tireless efforts of a dedicated committee in improving the overall appearance of the town.

In 2001 the Market Weighton "In Bloom Group" shared first place in the Summer Country Town category, a great incentive to achieve more in 2002.  After a magnificent input by all involved, from the organising committee, the residents of the town, the local council and the various sponsors, their efforts were recognised by gaining outright first place in the 2002 Summer event.

A wonderful result after only 2 years in the competition.  Now that the town is the "Blooming Champion" everyone should endeavour to keep our town there in 2003; as well as the dedicated few, importantly more of our residents and especially businesses in the town should be encouraged to take an active role in the competition.  It takes little effort to put up a hanging basket !
