Local Council Elections - May 2003
All thirteen Market Weighton Council seats are up for re-election. This is a unique opportunity for local residents to influence the progress of the town during the regeneration period.
Market Weighton is entering an exciting period during which the regeneration of the town is being spearheaded by the Weighton Area Regeneration Partnership (WARP), in which a vision for the town has been developed that encompasses all of WARP's aims over the next ten years - to make Market Weighton a sustainable commercial centre for business and the community serving not only the town but also the surrounding villages and parishes, while meeting the needs of rural society.
Coincidentally this year all seats on the local town council are up for re-election, so could this herald the election of some new councillors to work alongside WARP and ensure the success of the vision.
Nominations for the election close today (April 1st), and we wait in anticipation to see who is standing, and ultimately who is elected.
A plea to the electoral role in the town - get of your backsides and vote. At the last local election the turnout was 21.4%, surely you can do better than this ! You have a say in local affairs, use it.
