Vandals attack Market Weighton in Bloom Displays

In November 1999 the Market Weighton in Bloom Group was set up to encourage and foster a pride in Market Weighton, making it a more attractive place to live and work.
Since then the Group has gone from strength to strength in the Yorkshire in Bloom Competition.  In 2001 the town was joint first with Pateley Bridge & Dunnington in the small Country Town category & third overall.  The results for 2002 were very encouraging the town was awarded a plaque and certificates for being outright 1st for summer and 3rd overall.

The Group are working hard again this year to retain the town's excellent record through 2003 but unfortunately vandals are targeting the floral displays.

The troughs at the Londesborough Road & Goodmanham Road signs have had all the plants stolen - this is a regular occurrence at these two sites and plants in other containers through the town have been uprooted, broken or stolen.  A flower bed in Scotts Croft, planted by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council has also had a considerable number of plants removed.  In the past the Group have turned a blind eye and replaced them. The Police have now been made aware and the Group will press the police to prosecute anybody responsible.  If anyone has information that might lead to who might be responsible please contact the Chair (tel. 01430 873797)

Hopefully all went well for the Spring Judging which took place on 14th April.
