Market Weighton plan to have Customer Service Centre by April 2004

A new lease of life for the old magistrates courthouse.

The old Market Weighton Courthouse is to be transformed into a customer service centre as part of a £650,000 East Riding project.  The centre will include community offices, a drop-in centre for both young and older residents, advice shops offering information about many subjects, such as advice regarding benefits, council tax, policing issues etc.

This project at last finds a solution to the problem of what to do with the old courthouse which has not been fully utilised for several years following the transfer of magistrates facilities out of the town.  Much work needs to be carried out in order to bring the building up to the required standards for health & safety etc., and this should commence shortly.
