Market Weighton Business Awards celebrate what town has to offer for both residents and region as a whole

Market Weighton celebrates the growth of the town’s success, at the late night shopping event tonight, by announcing the winners of the inaugural Market Weighton annual business awards.

“These four awards are all about celebrating the enterprises that have made a real difference to Market Weighton’s business aspirations over the last year”. Said Andy Burton, Chairman of Weighton Area Regeneration Partnership, the body that has organised the awards ceremony.

“The winners have all shown a commitment to doing business in Market Weighton by serving both local residents, but also by bringing in customers from outside the town, ensuring that the town fulfils its vision as the Heart of East Yorkshire” he added.

The three categories included best new, established and retail business, which companies in the town could nominate themselves for, and a special customer relations category, chosen by the panel itself.

The winners are as follows:

Best New Business: The Bengal Brasserie

This York based restaurant company has expanded into Market Weighton bringing its world wide reputation for excellent food to the town and which many in the region travel to Market Weighton for.

Best Established Business: Langdale Telecom

Langdale was set in 1988. It now wins contracts against opposition such as Plessey and Siemens and has installed and maintains the Humber Bridge's intercom system. Clearly a world-class local firm.

Best Retail Business: Artistic Licence

This beauty salon has taken the high street by storm. Having expanded three times already since 1998, it is offering a sophisticated pampering to hundreds of customers from Market Weighton and many more from around the region. Featured services include a day spa with sauna and wet room as well as nail and hair consultancy.

Best Customer Relations Award: The Pet Shop.

Businesses could not nominate themselves for this special award. It was chosen by the panel from its experience of customer relations over the past year. Few could argue that Peter and Sue Moorhouse, who took over the Pet Shop in June 2000, could be beaten for this award. Their commitment to both customers and general public alike has ensured many come away from their shopping trip to Market Weighton with a smile on their face.

All winners receive a certificate, a photograph of them receiving the award a £100 cheque for their favourite charity. The award has been kindly sponsored by the HSBC Bank. WARP would like to thank Peter Robinson and the HSBC team in Market Weighton for all their support in making this award a reality.
