Giant Bradley Trail - Latest News

The Civic Trust's ambitious plan to create a Giant Bradley heritage trail in the town is proceeding according to plan and should become a reality by spring 2004, following funding by the LHI (Local Heritage Initiative) & Countryside Agency.

Giant William Bradley the local celebrity was born in the town in 1787 and is on record as being the tallest man to have lived in the UK, at 7ft 9in.  The plan is to create a trail of granite footprints around the town, to the exact size of Giant Bradley's shoe size, a staggering 15 inches.  The trail would follow a route through the town to include places of interest such as his birth place in York Road, his burial site in the local churchyard, the Londesborough Arms, the Duck Pond etc.

The granite footsteps have now been manufactured (within the last 3 days) and the next 'step' is to have them inset into the footpaths at relevant spots.

Watch this space for the next "Giant Step" in this project.
