Local Doctors' Plans for New Town Surgery.

The partners of Market Weighton Surgery have presented plans for a new surgery complex to provide first class medical care for local residents.  The plans, supported by members of the town council and the Market Weighton Regeneration Partnership (WARP), involve the possible use of land off Holme Road in the town.  Details of the plans were on display at the council offices on 21 February, when local residents had the opportunity to discuss the proposals with some of the local doctors and members of the council.

The proposals come as the limited facilities on Londesborough Road now struggle to cope with the increasing population of the town and surroundings.  Ten years ago there were 6200 patients registered with the surgery, there are now over 8500. The current surgery which was converted from a bungalow and has been extended three times in the last ten years, has some health & safety issues and major parking problems, and in order to bring it into the 21st century the partnership have to consider a move to another site.

The plans indicate a move to a site on Holme Road, about half a mile from the current surgery; however whilst discussions with the land owners concerned are at an advanced stage planning restrictions enforced by East Riding Council could still cause problems.  The partners at the surgery are however confident that a clear argument can be made to show how the new facility will be a massive boost for the practice and the town.
