Market Weighton Skate Ramp

Official Opening, 19th September 2004

After 2 years in the planning Market Weighton's Skate Ramp is now a reality, the official opening taking place on Sunday 19th September 2004.  It hardly seems two years since the first public meeting was held on Thursday 12th September 2002 when an 'Action Group' of young people and parents was formed to take the proposal further.
Since those early days around £20,000 has been raised to fund the building of the fibreglass ramp on the Memorial Playing Fields, the ramp itself costing £13,000.   Funding was raised from donations and grants from Market Weighton Town Council, The Community Charity Shop and Awards for All.  In addition money was also generated by the skaters themselves, taking part in local activities such as sponsored walks and car washing.

The opening of the Skate Ramp is an important event for the town and surrounding areas, and in the words of Councillor David Rudd, a member of the skate park committee, "This has been a tremendous fund raising effort in the town, and is an historic occasion to provide for the youngsters of the town."
