GROTTY: Adj. Nasty, unpleasant, shabby, of poor quality.

The Town Crier "Grot Awards" were originally given to those buildings, organisations and locations that did little to enhance the image of Market Weighton.

Since 2002 when the 'Grot Awards' were created there has been a steady improvement in the appearance of buildings in the town, due to the various regeneration initiatives, the tireless efforts of the Town Council, and the local Chamber of Trade, and as a result of new businesses moving into the area.

Happily we now have a situation where there is a distinct lack of candidates for the 'Grot Awards' and the decision has been taken to discontinue the Grotty Gallery.

However, should any new candidates be forthcoming, be assured - they will feature here.
