Floods in Market Weighton

Severe thunderstorms on the afternoon of 12 June 2006 cause flash flooding in Market Weighton town centre.

The storm started started late afternoon and lasted for around half an hour, the rain was torrential and the old storm water drains in the town just could not cope with the amounts of rainwater. Flooding up to two feet deep occurred in the High Street and parts of Sancton Road, and this was not helped by tidal waves caused by cars driving through the town.

The following photographs have been kindly provided by Glynis, and were taken by her sister from above Hagston's butchers shop.
