Council Tax - It's Good News and Bad News for local residents.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council have just announced a 3.8% increase in Council Tax for the 2007/8 tax year. This compares with the annual inflation figure of 2.7%. The rise however is lower than the two previous years when the increase was 4.9%.
The 3.8% increase will mean Band D houses will have to pay an extra £40 per year. Additional amounts will need to be paid once the Fire and Police Authorities have announced their figures.
The local Market Weighton Town Council precept however will not see an increase this year. Town Mayor, Stephen King, said,"We think it's really good news for the tax paying people of Market Weighton. The precept did actually go up by £2,500 but the increase that each household will pay will be zero because of the amount of new houses in the town. +It is a very difficult thing to work out each year but the fact that there's no increase is down to the careful housekeeping and forward planning of the town council."
